Bespoke Matching Service

We offer a bespoke matching service for all of our products, we can produce spindles to match your existing ones. If you have any broken or damaged existing spindles, then contact us and we can create an exact replica. We produce high quality spindles, newels, columns and much more. We have a wide range of designs to suit every household from classic to modern and contemporary.

If you cannot find a suitable design on our website, we would gladly assist you with our 40 years experience, to fulfil your requirements. Likewise if you see an illustration in a magazine or online that you like, then we could create a sample from it and put it into production on one of our copy lathes. 

Together with the bespoke turnings, we also produce handrails to match your existing profile.

ARCHITECTURAL columns & large turnings

We at spindlewood are equipped with machinery to produce very large turnings and columns. Our adapted lathes have 6m between centres and a 600mm diameter capacity. The majority of the columns and large turnings that we produce will be used for architectural restoration, garden architecture, pergola’s or structural support’s. 

Turned green oak columns are a very popular concept especially in the construction of oak timber framed buildings and garden structure’s, however hardwood and softwood ones can be used in building conservation’s and architectural project’s internally or externally providing that they are suitably treated.

Specialist wood working projects

Here at Spindlewood we don’t just make staircase parts we also produce a lot of specialist work. Over the years we have produced work for film company’s, Hampton Court Palace and restoration projects for example the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, for which we were awarded the prestigious wood award. We also won the Waverley design award. Over the years we have appeared in Grand Designs a few times, with our most recent appearance being in the house that was in the finials for house of the year.  

We have also produced a large amount of specialist projects for display’s like a very large 4m pair of wooden chopsticks for a restaurant and a turned wooden cannon replica. We can accommodate a large variety of unusual and specialist work and no job is too small or too big.

custom made furniture turnings

Our custom made furniture turnings are bespoke for individual designs and styles, we can produce table legs, four poster bed posts, knobs and hand turned chair legs. Most of this will be hand made and bespoke. We work closely with cabinet makers and furniture companies to produce turned items working from cad drawings or sketches. 

We can work to fine tolerances on precision turned work to make assembly of fine furniture to ensure a top quality finished item.

wooden balusters & porch post

Balusters and Porch Posts can be used to embellish the aspect of a property. Bespoke designs can be manufactured to suit the style and age of the building or if there is an existing design we can copy it to match. Balusters are a short decorative pillar that are strong and sturdy and can be used to make a statement in any architectural feature.

Porch Posts provide structural support and can be a great way to add some style to the porch and make an eye catching statement at the front of your house. They can also be a great addition in the garden too.
